Good Friday Status
On Good Friday, Christians honour and memorize the event, passion and suffering through which Jesus went through. The word ‘good’ was considered ‘holy’ in old English and so Good Friday is said Good. Many Christians spend the day fasting, offer prayers, perform meditation and most often spend the day in repentance. This day is not considered as a day of celebration rather a day to lament Christ’s death. Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and was raised to life on the third day, all in accordance with what God had promised all along in the Scriptures
“Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.
In you, O LORD, I take refuge;
let me never be put to shame.
In your justice rescue me.
Into your hands I commend my spirit;
you will redeem me, O LORD, O faithful God.”
The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men,
and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed,
he shall rise the third day.
afternoon was completed that great act by
which light conquered darkness and goodness conquered sin.
That is the wonder of our Saviour’s crucifixion.”
The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men,
and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed,
he shall rise the third day.
